Welcome to our Maker Faire Bay Area 2019 coverage. Unless you’re well versed in recent uptake in Do-It-Yourself culture, you may be unfamiliar with the Maker Faire. The Maker Faire is a gathering for people of all ages for a showcase of invention, innovation, and creativity. One of the two flagship events in North America, the annual Maker Faire Bay Area, along with its east coast counterpart in New York, can welcome a combined 2,000 makers and 200,000 attendees each year.
We had a blast covering the Maker Faire Bay Area this year. It would have been awesome if you could have joined us, but if you couldn’t or want to know what it was like, we’re here to share our amazing experience of this event with you.
Show Floor Highlights
We met a lot of interesting Makers this year. Projects like a build it yourself Smart Speaker you can teach and a cardboard beatbox you can pack flat and bring anywhere. Ever get stumped solving a Rubix cube? Not at the Maker Faire, here Rubik’s cubes solve themselves! Check out a few highlights from the show floor in the photo slideshow below. If you want to know more about our show floor encounters, check out our post here.
How-to Workshops
We were also able to attend a few workshops that caught our interest. Now, this is by no means representative of all the workshops that were available at the Maker Faire. We couldn’t attend them all of course, even if we really really wanted to! The workshops we were able to attend included: Handcrafting with Soft Circuits, Light-up Cosplay and Easy Screenprinting with Vinyl. Below are a few photo highlights from those workshops. If you want to know more about what we learned and how much fun we had at those workshops, check out our Maker Faire Workshop post here.
Maker Faire Cosplay
The cosplay game at the Maker Faire this year was amazing. But what is equally fascinating is the emphasis on cosplay crafting at the Maker Faire. We also encountered a lot of impressive cosplayers there and even attended the Maker Faire 2019 Cosplay Contest. A few highlights from our cosplay coverage can be seen below. But if that’s not enough, check out our full cosplay coverage here.
Mech Warfare
What would a Maker Faire be without its robot battles? In particular, we were captivated by the Mech Warfare booth. In this event, remote controlled quad-legged drone robots battle it off for supremacy, using BB-guns and pink Post-Its as targeting pads. Believe us, it was a lot of fun to watch and we were very impressed with the homebrew robotic competitors. From that event, a certain robot caught our eye. Interested yet? Check out robot battle post here.

Remember to keep Making!
UPDATE:
We just found out that the Maker Faire halted operations and laid off all their staff. It’s unfortunate as the Maker Faire was truly an amazing event to attend, as you can see from our posts above. We hope you can still enjoy the last Maker Faire through our posts. We’re truly grateful we were able to cover this event and share our experience here. But with all that said, the Maker Movement will live on! Just remember, to Keep Making!
